Low cog YJ?

Im trying to decide the best way to turn my stock 94 YJ into a low center of gravity build. I was wondering if the highline metalcloak fenders are worth the $$? and also if i could cram 33in. Tires with just the front fenders or would I have to buy highline rears also? Any advice to help my build would be great thanks guys.

This is a future project of mine as well. I don't want to buy the kit but I want to do it myself, there are a quite a few write ups of D.I.Y. highline for the front and the rear. There is on write up that the person had 37" after he was done so 33" should fit just fine. Heres a link but its on a tj, but I'd imagine its about the same process.

Yea ive seen the homeaid highline fronts done before i just dont know how i like the gap by the rockers.

I am running the metal cloak front fenders on my yj and it was well worth the 1600 i spent and im running 32x11.50 and a 4 inch lift. People are always asking about my fenders. It money well spent.

You're only running 32" tires on 4" of lift with Metalcloaks? You're doing something wrong. You should be able to stuff 35s no problem.

No im not doing anything wrong. I had 32 on the jeep before i put my fenders on and they were brand new so why buy new tires when i already had them on and i like to run smaller tires for flex and to climb over trees and rocks where i live. When im done with these tires i will more than likely buy some 33s but not totally sure yet.

DIY highline hood
That's just ugly. I liked it better with the stock hood and no fender. That's kind of like putting a body lift on your fenders and not the rest of the rig. EWE!!

Then you're in the wrong thread I think it looks pretty awesome myself.
This highline is bad ass if you ask me.

With no fenders it just looks like a wrecked jeep awaiting new parts... Now Thats just ugly.

So you like that where the fender and rocker don't line up? And that doesn't looked wrecked? I think, on that TJ I'd throw the inner fender up there and brace them up, make it look clean. Then Rhino line them. I got 34" tires on my YJ that don't rub and didn't have to cut any body parts.

Didn't I ask you how long your front shackles are, in another thread? Don't recall you answering, I'll have to go back and check.

I have seen a stock suspension tj with 35s with the metal cloaks I will take pics for you tomorrow

With a 4" lift and metalcloaks you could push 39" tires

You sent me a PM and the forums would not let me reply so I did it in a thread that same day Hey yj93ben--- the shackles were the first thing to go along with the stock springs they had nearly inverted. We are all on the same team and entitled to our opinion... trying to mock me based on an old pic in my profile = FAIL (all in good fun)

As for the gap at the rocker, that can be dealt with easily (ie: rocker guards) and is not as obvious as having no fenders at all. On the trail no fenders is no problem, on the street it looks ghetto to me.

How much lift did you do to get the 34's to fit? The idea of a highline is to keep the CG low and do a tummy tuck giving clearance for large tires with minimal lift and giving plenty of ground clearance. With any lift, your ground clearance has one major limiting factor, the axles. No matter how high the body and frame are, the tires are all that will raise the axle. If you have a 2" lift or 10" lift, 35" tires set your axles height the same.

I'm guessing about 5.5" of lift. I have a SOA lift w/factory springs. Ground clearence is very good to have, and you're right, tires are the only thing that will give you clearence. However clearence with out wheel travel is kind of limiting off-road. About the only YJ lifts I seen that give you both clearence and travel are the SOA and the Coil Overs. Wouldn't you agree?

Wheel travel is a major factor... Both highlift fenders or no fenders will help alot with that. As for lift suspensions, I totally agree. SOA and coil overs can do great things for wheel travel in contrast to most lift kit springs that don't really do much in that area as they are too stiff. I have considered going SOA, but really don't want more height which has had me leaning towards the highlift mod while my tub has been in pieces. I like how it maintans a reasonable ride height, but allows for full flex with the larger tires, and reduces the roll over risk. Look at rock racing rigs... Relativly low, with a ton of travel, and less risk of rolling.

Rock Racing Rigs

I wasn't quite sure what a Rock Racing Rig was. So, I searched it. Come to find out most of them have coil over suspension and fouty+ inch tires. Not to mention D60, D70 or 14 Bolt full width axles. You'er right, less risk of roll-over when your as wide as you are long or tall. On the SOA lift, if you stay with stock springs, its' not that much taller than the four inch spring lifts.

But, getting back to the thread. I like the Highline fender look, too bad they don't have the kit for YJs.

I think I'm headed this way next time I dent a fender(it will happen).
