Maybe a clutch problem

I have a 95 YJ 4.0 w/ a manual trans. I stated having problems shifting into 1st gear. When I'd let the clutch out it starts jerking. But only in first gear does it do this. I would have thought that if it were only the clutch plate that were glazed that I'd notice it in other gears as well but maybe not.

One day I got stuck in a very long traffic jam where it was only creeping along. You know how that is with a manual trans. I wasn't sure I was going to make it home at one point. The shaking, when letting out the clutch in 1st gear, got so bad I was afraid I was going to tear something up. Does this just sound like a typical failing clutch or something else? I even considered bad motor mounts but I've checked those and they're still good and aren't that old either.

Thanks in advance.

I would check the trans mount and torque stabalizer next to it. My jeep was missing a bolt from the mount and that stabilizer. In reverse it hops and bounces and shakes like the trans is going to fall out! Good luck.

Is it possible for oil to get on the clutch plate? I haven't seen this yet but that doesn't mean it won't happen. Front transmission seal or valve cover leaking causing oil to drip down. You'll know if you have to replace the clutch. When I did I replaced all of my transmission seals. No leaks now.
