milkshake trans fluid

I went wheelin last night and when I got home I checked all my fluids. my trans fluid looks like strawbery milk shake. I droped the pan and drained. I then filled it up with 5 fresh qts of atf+4 and ran for a min then checked again. Still milkshake looking. Wondering if this is something I can flush my self or do I have to take it in and have it flushed. also what made it turn to milkshake???? thanks

either water got into trans from breather OR trans cooler is leaking. check your coolant and see what that looks like.

^ i agree. don't drive it like it is. and if the coolant is fine, i'd get it flushed at a shop, w/ the machine that flushes it all out, and pay for the extra fluid and tell them to flush 18 qts through.

thats how much my machine at work holds, if you don't ask, they'll usually just run 10 qts through.

Agreed- my guess would be your radiator/transmission cooler are leaking into each other. Not a big deal- just pick up a new one, flush and fill your fluids, and drive away Mark W.

If you do it on your own it's going to take a bit to get "all" of the water out of the tranny. Drive it for a week and then change the fluid. Then repeat that step until it looks normal.

assuming its just water one flush should be enough and the trans itself will boil the little amount of water left away. If you are mixing coolant ide flush a bunch of times and dont stress trans until its done a bunch of times. Coolant isnt good to clutches inside trans.
