Sure. It's going to cost some cash unless you have and know how to use a basic set of hand tools, and a welder, and some power tools, and some air tools. and some other tools.

People do engine swaps all of the time. You are going to have to weld on new motor mounts, modify the crossmember, strip the wiring harness and put in one for the new engine, get the swap legalized and if you are in am emission state you MUST find an engine that is of the same model year or newer (I.E. you can put a 1995 engine into a 1990 Jeep, but not a 1990 engine into a 1995 Jeep) and pay a smog ref to inspect the swap and legalize it.

definitely. theres a huge aftermarket following for the small block chevy of all years and generations. when i asked around about parts for my 5.9L magnum swap the common answer was that i should just put a 350 or an LS motor in. it is probably cheaper and easier to put one of those motors in than a hemi. what do you want though? if your budget and your skills and especially your patience are big enough then i say go for it. there are a lot of other good motors out there that don't have a bow-tie on them.

Some names you will learn to live with and love as you do this (as I'm finding out):

Novak
Howell

Novak makes all of the adapters, connectors, etc. to put just about anything you want into a Jeep. Howell makes the painless wiring adapter for the computer.

Without them, you will be in a world of hurt. Even with them, you might be in a world of hurt but at least it will be a well documented and supported world of hurt.

I have similar plans for my 90. My 93 ZJ has the 318 in it and even though it's just setting around gathering dust it's not for sale. Sooner or later that bad boy is going in my YJ. Hell I might even use the transmission, T-case and axels too. Believe it or not, the ZJ gets better MPG (14.5) than the YJ (12.5).

I have an in-law that owns a large auto recycle business, but most of the replacement motors i see are chevy. Not planing on rock climbing or trying to tear it up just hoppin it up with some noise.

Everyone knows I have done alot of swaps in jeeps, I specialize in fords just because that's what I like and I know all the tricks with them. They also fit nicer than a SBC and are virtually the same money overall. If you do like I do and use the ford tranny and case you won't need to buy any adapters. I'm sure you do the same with dodge stuff as well, I had a YJ I traded for last year that had a 360, ax15, and the stock 231 in it and it fit nicely as well.

when i called Novak to see if they could get me my bellhousing the guy tried to push me into an LS1 swap. eff that!!!!!! my 360 was basically free as i cut it out of my old work van. got my bellhousing from a salvageyard on ebay for a 3.9 v-6 dakota with a ax-15. got my transmission from a local nutjob that while acting like he was god's gift to auto mechanics didn't know what an ax-15 was. he had been trying to sell me a nv4500 which i wanted, but he knew what THAT was worth. while looking around i saw the ax-15 in a pile with some other stuff. two words DIRT CHEAP.

don't listen to what other people want you to put in your jeep. put what you wanna put in your jeep. heck if you've got an old buick or pontiac or international or whatever off brand v-8 laying around put it in. it may be more difficult and you may be hunting for parts and fabricating your own mounts, but hey, you won't be just any other chevy motor guy. im not knocking chevys. they're great motors, i have a bunch. just saying, ya know? happy wheeling whatever you choose.
