Moving rear axle back

I have been investigating on how to move my rear axle back and cut out the rear fennders I have found the xj springs are 5 inches longer and the centering pin is also 5 inches further back has anyone heard of anyone doing this?? I know that the driveline will need to be lengthend I just want to get everyone elses comments b4 I do it?

welcome to the forum. i have heard of people using the xj springs. you are limited on the rear though due to the gas tank. if you wanna lengthen the rear that much you'd have to relocate the gas tank, or i think genrite makes a gas tank for a ton of money that gives you more room. for an inch or two they make offset spring plates. you can also try to get a little out of the front if you are just going for a little more wheel base.

Yup, like Doc stated you can definitely use XJ springs to stretch your YJ about 5 inches. If you use spring perches like Ruff Stuffs you can gain another inch or so also based on the different pin locations. You'll need to turn the XJ leafs backwards otherwise they are the same as your current springs. Along with the tank issue you are also going to have to add new shock mounts and weld on new shackle hangers outside the rear crossmember to leave enough room for the springs.
