Muffler rattling anoying

Well the muffler went last year exploded haha so we got a new one and it seemed fine and when idleing it would make a rattlig noise but when you started to drive it wouldnt sound any more.. Well now it has been handed over to me and all i hear when i drive is this noise it sounds like metal banging together.. My dad says its normal like a over sized muffler but i cant handle it the car drives fine and sometimes its a loud rattle and other times its just a soft one... It seems to get going once warmed up. Any ideas how to fix or what the problem is?

Is it a real rattle or a buzz? The rattles are pretty easy to fix.

Check above the transfer case skid plate, there is an exhaust hanger there that is bad about breaking and letting theexhaust rattleagainst the skid plate

I had a similar issue, the baffles inside the muffler have broken loose from the outside casing. you could bash the muffler with a hammer to tighten up the baffles or change the muffler to a fully welded high-quality one...

my biggest problem when i replaced the muffler and tailpipe is that the tailpipe seemed a bit long. the curve that goes up and around the axle is sitting too far back and tends to rattle up against the body. i was thinking about cutting a half inch off the pipe where it attaches to the muffler or getting some type of block to wedge between the pipe and the cab body.

i havnt had the time to really get under there and assess it yet.

I mean the car runs great not sure about this though the gears 1-2 seem to go in harder (stick) its smooth i guess no grind but i kind of have to push now... When the car heats up the noise starts... I was listening and it sounds like something is possible in the muffler the exaust also shakes a little.. Im 16 so im not entirely sure as to what to look for all i know is this sound doesnt sound to good and when my dad drove it i didnt remember hearing it. Only when he was like in idle on a hill or something

I had what I would imagine is the same problem, as long as it is hung properly, right above the muffler, and towards the rear bumper, that's okay. I chopped off my old muffler and replaced it with a brand new one. It was only 70, got it from the local parts shop it was a dynomax, which is the same as quadratec, mossis4x4, etc. but no paid shipping.
Just make sure you WELD the connections back. Nothing else truly holds. Trust me I tried.

my exhaust was making a noise that drove me crazy. i checked all kinds of stuff and it ended up being the exhaust mount back by the tailpipe. the rubber part had gotten hard and the metal rod was banging around inside the hole. i stuck a golf tee in the hole and it stopped the movement and the noise. didn't want to use silicone because it would make getting the muffler off harder.

mine was the tailpipe hanger. I slipped a piece of vacuum/fuel hose over the rod. now it can bounce around all it wants and not make any noise.
