I was debating doing an HID conversion on my '88 Wrangler. Several weeks ago, I stumbled across Daniel Stern's website and spoke to Daniel Stern. I ended up ordering an H4 headlight upgrade. The upgrade I ordered consists of new headlamps, an upgraded relay harness, and Osram 70/65w H4 bulbs. The order arrived yesterday and I began the install today. The process consisted of the following:
Disconnecting the battery cables
Unplugging the wiring harness from the headlights
Removing the plastic headlight bezels
Removing the retaining rings
Removing the headlights
Once that was completed, I laid out the new wiring harness, drilled 2 holes in the inner fender near the battery for the relay holder, drilled 2 holes in the side of the battery tray for the fuse holder, and secured the relay holder and the fuse holder with 2 self tapping hex head screws each. After installing the new headlight holders with the retaining rings and bezels, I installed the bulbs (I used a rag while handling the bulbs to ensure that no dirt or grease got on them), plugged in the new headlamp connectors, plugged the trigger wire into the original headlamp connector nearest the battery (Passenger side), attached the ring connector on the red wire to the positive terminal connector, the ring connector on the black wire to the negative terminal connector, and then reinstalled the battery cables. A simple process that took me less than an hour with no experience in doing this type of conversion. I utilized 8 inch cable ties to secure the new harness to the old one to take up the slack and keep the new wiring in place. Went out to dinner with the wife and got to try out the new lights on the way home on both the highway and unlit back country roads. I am absolutely blown away with the brightness of the new lights. Street signs, roadside reflectors, and the eyes of deer were lit up like beacons from long distances with both the low and high beams. And the light is pure white, unlike the higher K HID lights.
