my YJ squeals like a pig

...but apparently only i can hear it.

it happens when i hit a certain spot when i am accelerating, and it's definitely more noticeable when i'm at highway speed. if i let off the gas, it stops, or if i lay on the gas it stops.

i've had my guys at the shop look at the fuel pump, fuel lines, but they couldn't hear the squeal and i think they were just rolling their eyes behind my back. :P

anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

i bought my wrangler two years ago, she's a 92 Islander w/manual trans, and i've had this problem from the get-go. doesn't seem to affect anything (other than my sanity).

I had the same problem and solved it buy replacing the idler pulley's. They started to make noise at high rpm's and then progressed.

My 95 was doing the same thing first I gave the belt some belt conditnor, That didn't seem to do the trick so I put some WD-40 on the pulleys and everything went away.

When you say you spray the pulleys with WD-40 do you mean your spraying the actual part of the pulley where the belt rests or the bolt in the center of the pulley?

I'm having a similar noise just not as loud.

vaccum leak will do the same thing, check the vaccum lines, all of them, it may just be a small crack, allso your intake gasket may be sucking air.
Just my 2 cents.

I 2nd a vacuum leak, you may try taking carb cleaner and spraying anywhere there may be a vacuum leak while it is running. Lines, intake, etc. If there is a leak it will introduce the carb spray into the engine and you will notice the idle will pick up.

I sprayed the center bolts on the pulleys while the engine is off. So you don't end up with WD-40 everywhere. Let it soak in for a few minutes and fire the engine back up and see if it worked.

An overworked alternator will squeal/whistle. If there is corrosion somewhere in the system, it will work harder to charge the same amount. Try cleaning your battery terminals and checking the alternator connections.
