Name that noise!

Seems I've gotten some water into the top of my engine and no water in the oil pan. I'm starting to get a lot of valve train noise or so it seems. I took the oil cap off and didn't really hear the noise get any louder. That kinda scared me. Should I replace my lifters now that they have had water in them? Here's a link to a crappy video of the noise. Btw I took the serp. belt off and let it run for about a minute. It's not a pulley unless it's the crankshaft. Pulled the valve cover and saw the nasty oil, but didn't notice anything making this noise. I'm running 10w-30 synthetic. Cold start oil pressure is 55psi @ 1100 rpm, idles at 1000 rpm still at 55psi and the noise starts. It takes about 30 sec to 1.5 minutes before the noise starts. Rockers are nice and snug. Any suggestions?

Just how much water did you get in the engine?. If it got in the top end its certainly in the bottom end as well. If the lifters are definitely louder they might have water in them and collapsing. If you are really concerned, take them out and flush them. You might have to change oil a few times to get water out of crank etc. At the cost of syn, I'd use regular oil for that, change filter too.

After taking the valve cover off and letting it run for a couple minutes, it doesn't seem to be the top of the motor. It wasn't a lot of water. The oil hasn't discolored at all. My compression tester fittings aren't threading into the spark plug holes so I'm stuck there. I'll probably go to regular oil and flush it all out. Still cannot find this noise.

Hard to tell where the noise is coming from. Could be lifters and could be rod bearings. Does it go away some when its warmed up or under load? Get underneath and see if its louder at the bottom of the pan, if so its probably rod bearings.
I had some loud lifters and replaced them along with push rods. Then the noise could be heard on the bottom end when cold....looks like rod bearings. Haven't made up my mind to pull the pan and check them out, drive it awhile longer or just put in a reman. With over 200k on it I might just replace it.

part info tag on the radiator hose? I don't think it's the source of the knocking noise... seems like that woulda been diagnosed by now

Might be a bent rod, or a bad lifter, that is what i would check first.
