What do I need to look for when I decend my ride? It should be simple, but want to avoid potential hazzards. Steering? Trans link? Anything? I have an '89 Laredo with a 4" suspension and 3" body lifts. I've looked, measured, and my 33X12.5's will fit w/o the body lift. My wife hates climbing in it too! Straight 6, 5speed. Appreciate the help.
Look to see if the fan is going to rub on the fan shroud. You might have to make an adjustment to the shroud. I would pull up the shifter boots and see whats been done there. Most likely nothing but its worth a look. The steering linkage should move freely.
The most important thing to look for with a body lift that high is damage to the body tub where the mounts are.
You might notice a bit better handling but not much. It is a brick after all. With your 4" suspension lift and 33's I think you'll be fine without the body lift. But that is entirely up to you. You could get the daystar 1" body lift. It incorporates the mounting bushings with the lift all in one.
i would replace it with 1" daystar bl as Coyote recommended above... You get almost all the bolts you need and you can replace your old rotten bushings. I doubt they will make much difference in handling.
If the wife has problems getting in, get her a step. She will like it better as it will be much lower than trying to stick the foot in the door.
Make sure you take your time and spray what you can down with penetrating oil a few days before. then use a little heet if needed to loosen the bolts going into the body. They can break quite easily,poor design.

2x on that, i have seen many people break the nuts off from the body especially with 3" body lifts. The nut looking things are welded to the body from the inside. Once the bolts rust to the nuts and the welds holding the nuts rust as well. That can easily brake which will put you into a big trouble. The main reason for these damages are common on 3" bls is because the 3" pucks need longer bolts. The longer bolts have more leverage. The pucks can only hold the body in place so much but with the lots of leverage, the bolt bends the nuts left and right to where it eventually cracks the welds.
Last night had it out in the woods and was all mudded up- even for me its a pain to get in when everything is slimy. But, deer season is approaching here in MO, and the woods are calling. The body lift is going to be a winter project of mine. Ya gotta love how those big tires roll-- no trails needed. I love my Jeep!
