Unhappy Need help!Blown engine, what do I do?

Hi guys, today I blew the engine on my 1989 wrangler 6cyl 5spd manual. It made some rattling sound for a while, which I think was a crank shaft bearing. Today a piece of rod shot through the oil pan and I found it in the puddle. It happened on a trail and my frind and I did some hiking.
I just got exhaust changed, have some new parts in the jeep. Started prepping it for painting too. What would you do if you were in my shoes? I don`t want to spend a lot of money but at the same time I would hate just giving it up too.
Looking for a good solution moneywise. Find a good independent mechanic and get a new engine? Try selling as is?
Please, let me know what you think.

used engine options and price

Thanks for replying, guys. I am not a mechanic and can do only little/easy stuff myself - can`t rebuild egine by any means. How much do you think a used jeep engine will run me as well as mechanic labor. And a question for thise who put 350 in their jeeps - how much will the whole process run me? What do I need to know before I decide to go that route? Putting a used 4.2 jeep engine won`t reqire any modifications, unlike 350,right, what are those mods with 350, mind educating me a little?Any info will be appreciated, thanks in advance, guys.

Thanks for encouraging me, guys. I don`t have a shop, what do you guys do to pull the engine out? Rent/borrow equipment?
One guy in my area is offering me a 4.2 free, but says it was run dry and had a rod knock. It is probably not much different from mine, what do you say?

Go to the junk yard..The jeeps are small and no too complicated to swap out if you can afford get a reman but if junk yard ok.
Rent a cherry picker and get your buddy to help buy em dinner or lots of beer afterwards...

Unhappy $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

" I don`t want to spend a lot of money"
(Thats your only Option), unless you want to give it too me.

I will bet that you were in a nose high attitude when your engine blew. That makes the oil run away from the oil pump. Not enough oil being pumpted to the bering's.

Been there and done that.

pull the oil pan off and see where the oil pick up is. Try to remmeber that the next time.

Have a nice day

Go online and look up AMC 4 x 4 Salvage. They have a huge selection of Jeep parts.

If it were me, I would not go through the trouble of swapping motors without rebuilding it first if at all possible. especially with a motor that they haven't build in 20 years. If it were a 4.0 with 10k on it, then it would be a different story. I'm not saying not to do it, it just makes sense to freshen it up first of you can spare a few hundred dollars.
