Need help with my kc lights.

My girlfriend and I just bought a 91 wrangler and it came with 4 kc lights on a overhead light bar. Two are floods and two are spots. The wiring is black and white. Which one is hot? I think it's the white but just want to make sure before I wire them wrong. Thanks.

I would wire black hot white ground or if you have a multi meter you can check to see which one is ground

Okay and when I wire the lights in and run them through the tube, what would be the best area to run them into the cab. Through the window frame or through the body under the window frame.

Also what size torxs is the seat belt holder? I have to replace the back seat seat belts so the baby's safe. Thanks for all the support.

This is some what funny. I would do black ground and white positive. Since the negative/ground on your battery is already black. This way you don't get confused later on what one is hot. Black to me is always ground and colors blue, red, yellow, white can be a voltage sources. Just my .02.

It is a T50 Torx bit. If you don't already have a good Torx socket set in your toolbox, now is a great time to invest in one. Every time I unbolt something on my jeep that was held on by Torx bolts, I try to replace it with a Grade 8 hex bolt so it is easier to remove later.

Good luck on the new jeep!


On a side note, for what it's worth, I too would wire the white as hot and the black as ground- just for uniformity's sake.

Shawnbn, Welcome to the club. Lights will be just the beginning.

Use black as the ground, same at the battery terminals/leads. Are you wiring in a relay with that many lights?

Black is always ground on a 12 volt system.

What's more strange to me is that it came with 4 installed lights with no wiring installed.

My advice would also be to take the 2 fogs off the roof and get them down on the front bumper then buy another set of spots, drivers or even euro beams to put up there. Fog's don't belong up that high up with their wide and narrow beam, you basically need to point them nearly straight down at the ground to see them light up anything useful. ...that is if they're real fog reflectors with the shield over the bulb.

Thanks all for the info. I believe they are driving lights. And for the wiring yes I will be using a relay. And I planned on switching out the torx for hex

I agree, fog's have a wide and downward pattern meant to light up the road right in front of you. Having them on the roof will cause a lot of light to fall on the hood causing a lot of glare off the hood. Stick with pencil/spot beam up top and mover the others to the bumper

The two center lights look like spots and would be fine. I can't tell if the two outside lights are fog or driving. Driving won't be as bad a fogs up there, but spot or pencil is what you want. A spot or pencil will normally have a clear lens, no grooves in the glass. Fog and driving will have grooved lens.

No, you can't tell from that picture. A real "fog" will have a piece of metal wrapped over the bulb right behind your "ee" i jeep. Another way to tell is to turn them on and take another picture. A real fog will be completely lit up in the bottom half, and almost no brightness in the 4 grill squares above you "ee"

...or turn them on at night against a wall and check the beam for yourself. a fog will make a bright horizontal bar of light, some light scattering below that bar, not much light above that bar. a flood will put out a large soft area of light like a house lamp, and driver/euro will have a very obvious hot spot in the center. From the lens, it can only be one of these 4 types( it's not a spot like someone else said). The only reason you would want to know is of course, if it's a real fog, you definitely don't want it up there. so when are you going to black out that orange writing on the lights? That's bright enough without turning them on. LOL

We just bought it and the lights aren't wired in yet. That's my next job. And I like the orange jeep. It matches the color of the jeep. Lol
