Need tcase part number help

I am replacing some seals on my 1989 YJ 231/tf999 combo this weekend. I am trying to have the parts required so I don't have to run to parts store. I am replacing the rear tf999 seal and I would like to replace the tcase input shaft seal while the tcase is removed. I went to autozone and they had the choice of a single lip (part 3173) and a double lip (part 710928). Which is the proper seal?. Also, does anyone have the part number for the shifter seal on the trans? I have read that this is a known problem area for leaking. Thanks for any help.

Write down the part numbers and nomenclature from Morris 4x4 website below:

NP 231 Transfer Case Parts for Wrangler TJ, YJ, Cherokee XJ, Grand Cherokee ZJ at Morris 4x4

See if the parts store can type in the part numbers to find a match made by their suppliers.

I had to order the parts from Morris to get the right ones. Even the local dealership was unsure.

Good luck

Thanks for the link. I believe the seal I need for the input shaft is #30, but the year model says 1997-2001. Shouldn't it be the same on any Jeep np231?

Here is a pic for the group to look at. Are you the original owner? It could have been changed?

I am the second owner. It is bleeding where the tcase meets the trans pretty bad. The Morris site shows #30 to be for 97 and newer. Quadratic has the same diagram with the same seal for 1990 and newer. I am not sure why 1987+ is not listed. I want to make sure I order the correct seal so I do not end up with a undriveable Jeep while I wait on the new part.

Quadratic is a forum vendor, I would post this question in the vendor section too.

Morris 4x4 might be on here too (or maybe it's the other jeep forum)

Another thing you may have to do is buy both and return the one that does not fit. You will need to that a lot with these jeeps. Even the dealer kept crapy records pre 95.
