I have an 89 yj and im thinking about changing all the original center dash gauges with new ones not just for looks but also reliability since the originals are never accurate. My question is there an easy swap out on these without changing the wiring and if not is there a company that makes replacement gauges that will fit without having to change or modify the the center dash peice?
also wicked interested in it,but for the most part all my gauges work reasonably well, exsept my oil gauge that will go down when the car is off and go all the way up when the car is in gear but read correctly when its in neutral.
i was having some of the same issues with my gauges. i took the center gauge housing apart and cleaned all the connections on the back circuit board. for the gauges unscrew the single bolt and remove it and the lock washer. then push down on the threaded rod gently until the gauge pops out. then remove the plastic post mount and clean it and the board. Mine were all green from years of water leaking. note: clean with steel wool and be very careful not to short anything out....UNPLUG THE NEG on the battery. put it all back together and see what gauges work..good luck..i got my temp to stop going crazy and my amp gauge is now working. Also do the same for the lights on the gauges. You can gently bend the contacts if cleaning didn’t work. This information is for an 89 jeep wrangler.
