Negative wire creating spark

Hi again, Still trouble shooting. I have an 89 wrandgler 4 cly

My question is about the negative wire that runs from the battery to the engine (mine is connected to a bolt beneath the alternator). I notice that when I touch the top of the negative post (on the battery) with that wire, it creates a small spark. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Wes

I always found that to be normal on older vehicles. Make sure all of your connections are clean.

Also check for any exposed wire along the wire itself. It could be catching something metal somewhere.

i'd take the connection on the engine block off and clean it, and the area around the connecting post, with some emery cloth and reattach. since the alternator wires are in close proximity to the neg wire i'd also make sure they are clear of the neg wire.

unless something was left on you should not see much of a spark. everything off and a audible crackle and spark = parasitic draw.
