Never seen so many loose wires in my life!

Title pretty much sums it up. I bought a 94 YJ a couple of months back. Always wanted a Wrangler as a kid! Loved them! The previous owner must not have ever worked on a car because there are wires everywhere. He sawed off part of the roll cage, no idea why. and pretty much left it for scrap. My guess is he used it for off roading and got tired of it. But Im working slowly at fixing it back up into prefect condition! But after looking under my hood because of battery cable issues ive found a ton of wires just hanging around and im not really sure where they go. Is there anyone who could possibly point me in the right direction as to if they are okay just chillin there or if something is missing? On the first picture there is another cable I couldn't grab but its held to the cable protector by electrical tape.

Also my jeep will randomly click once when i try to start my engine and it'll kill the battery, but once i stop the power will come back on untill i try again and so far the only fix i found was wiggling the positive battery cable on the post untill i could get it to crank. I stripped the wire and redid the connections and I believe its fixed but is there any other reason this could happen?

1. Could be for the 4WD switch, though not sure on that generation of YJ.

2. Looks like it's for the A/C pump.

3. I've always believed this additional light to be for the hard top defroster/wiper controls, unless your HVAC controls don't light up, then it plugs into the right side of it, from behind.

4. Sounds like a connection issue. Check all of your connections.

Thanks Xpress! I played with my 4wd earlier and it engaged and my lights for it came on so im not sure. I figured those were for the ac but this guy has done such a number I wasnt 100% sure. HVAC is fine so i guess ill just stash that back where i found it and I did fumble around and heard my electricals cut back on and i havent had the problem the rest of the day but ill find out tomorrow before heading to work.

Damn Express you pass the TEST 100% that is what I think they all are. That means Express is a 2.5L Genius!!!

Seriously he is correct on all. Every Wrangler has some extra wires that was a base model like mine no AC no tilt no fancy decals but I have found several and was able to figure them out.

The battery issue of key nothing and then it is back is usually the cables and posts need a good cleaning or you have lose grounds passenger side of engine by the dipstick. There are several grounds in that location. Remove all clean all with wire brush or sandpaper and the clean the stud and the block area until they are shiny. If you are worried about corrosion some dielectric grease will work just fine some all YJ owners should have is a half a tube left.

Pic one: what is in your hand is the vent line to the cad switch and the electrical connector in the background is the connector for an optional under hood light. Both are as they should be.
The wiring harness has provisions for a lot of options that may not be on your Jeep, so you'll find quite a few unused connectors.

Dang, thanks for the fast responses! I havent had any more issues as far as electrical. Just random issues with my jeep going uphill, I live out by Black Mountain NC and anyone who has to take I-40 to get places around there knows its steep but sometimes my jeep will climb it like its nothing and other times ill go from 70 to 50mph an cant get my speed back up. any ideas? I realized the P.O put way to much oil in at one point because I have poil that burped back up in my air filter and I just found a transmission leak i need to locate under the carriage.

Do you have any pics of that hacked up rollbar? I'm always interested in the things PO's do.

Ill take one tomorrow for ya. I have a tarp on right now to keep the rain out. He demolished it as far as talking care of it. Its sad. His soft top was actually drilled into the bar. So now im saving for a hard top and replacement rollbar.

This is what I was going to revise my answer to, didn't get a chance to. But yes it's the vent check line for the 4WD vacuum system.
