New to forum and Jeep ownership

Hi all, my name is Tony, i live in Frederick, Md. And I just bought a 90 yj. First jeep so I'm green as heck. 114k, 6 cylinder, garage kept since 93 and has been a daily driver, he says it's never been used off road. Don't know if that's bad or good. Small oil leak, a few drops when I park overnight. I havn't tracked it down yet. 3 very small rust spots on tub, nothing I can't fix myself. Motor does make a bit of noise but I understand that's typical...nothing alarming. Totally stock, no mods or add-ons. Seats are worn out but covered. So far it looks like he was honest about it but I guess I'll be finding out more as time goes by.

Welcome Wagon

Welcome aboard. I'm sure when you're ready to ask questions, most of us will respond. Most of us have "been there, Done that". So, there are no dumb questions. If we can help you avoid our mistakes, we're more than happy too.

What are your future intentions for your new little friend? Daily Driver or Off-Road only, or somewhere in between?

First off welcome to the forum, now that is out of the way, you should know that a little oil leak is expected, at least in my jeeping experience. When you fix one real another springs up somewhere, they're a lot of fun to work on and get your hands dirty, and nothing better then sling the doors off taking the top off and driving wherever you want to go. Now that pure official let's see some pictures of that yj!

My new yj

It came with a new set of Goodyear wranglers (5) on rims which I will be putting on very soon.
I'm trying to post a couple of pics but iPads are not very pic-posting friendly.

Welcome to the wonderful world of JEEPdom!!! Those seats can be replaced very cheaply if you know where to go and what to look for. As far as small oil leaks, they just give it character. Keep an eye on your fluid levels and keep them full. NEVER allow it to run hot! It's really expensive when you have a cracked head or block. Besides, a JEEP just deserves better... LOL Looking forward to some pics of that YJ!

What size are the tires? Is your Jeep lifted? Seats are easy, I just replaced all mine with Bestop Trailmax II front and rear. If yours is a 4.0, the noise could be caused by the exhaust manifold. They are prone to cracking. Fixing the oil leaks is usually easy, chasing it down is another story.

Looking forward to seeing your rig and its progress.

Well, the drivers side seatbelt has to be hand cranked out....tightens VERY effenciantly though. I'll have to do something about that. Tires are 15"and it came with a new set of 5 on rims. Changing those over this weekend. drives impressivly smooth and shifts into 4wd really easilly. I think...I hope I got a good one.

Welcome. Nice YJ. Looks like a nice clean slate to make it into whatever you like.

I know! "Garage Kept" is a very loosely thrown around term here, I discovered this while shopping for my Gold Wing. I looked at some 20 year old bikes that were listed as "garage kept" that might have seen the inside of shed twice in their existence. Total rust buckets. I hit the jackpot on this one. The trick now will be figuring out how to prevent the little rust it has from spreading.
