First of all, hello to the group! after years of wanting a Jeep, I finally bought a 1990 YJ. I guess that isn't entirely true, I had a Cherokee when I was in the Air Force, and I had it with me in Germany. That straight six had no issues with the Autobahn, and I passed many a Mercedes!
The YJ has the same Six cylinder, and an automatic transmission. Not as fast on the highway, but I got the auto because I feel its better when "rocking out" of sand and mud.
I have a couple of things I need to fix, maybe someone on this group can help.
1. The shifter comes out of park OK, but there is no resistance when it goes through reverse to drive.(I don't need to pull back on it to shift gears) As such, it jumps to 2nd gear without any resistance. I think the gate or bushings must be shot, but until my maintenance manual arrives, I'm not sure how that is put together. (Shifter is on the steering column) Anyone have this issue? When I hold it in place, the tranny seems to shift well, I don't think there is an issue with that.
2. I can turn off the key, remove it, and it takes a couple of seconds to actually shut off the engine. I'm thinking the electrical module the key cylinder is shot, but ....
If any of you are in Arizona, I would like to learn of any activities that go on here, east of Phx.
Thank you, and I'm looking forward to interacting with this community!
