New Ujoints shift a little

I installed new ujoints and straps and I noticed that on the caps that are held in by the straps, there is some movement up and down, from the stopper on the yolk to the other stopper tab; almost like the ujoints are 1mm shorter. Is that normal?

You could have the wrong joint, or have a bad yoke. They should be a snug, tight fit.

ok i think know whats going on...
the reardriveshaft should have two u-joints and they are both different sizes. I bet you bought the smaller of the two twice, and replaced them both...

I have only replaced the snap rings that come in the pkg. never replaced the straps too?.

And also had the parts guy send me away with the wrong u-jounts.

He didnt realize, nor did I that they would have 2 different sizes on the same shaft!
Why would they have 2 different sizes???

The rear one at the axle is bigger than the rest. I just replaced all of mine last weekend and went through the same ordeal with the "parts" guys.

Could be the yoke but unless you do some heavy off road stuff or tore up the u joints I would still lean towards the wrong u joint.
