Newbie YJ drive shaft question

My son just purchased a 89 YJ Islander. We had a lot of service done at the dealership prior to having him take it on the road including new U joists. Last night while driving in the neighborhood, he dropped the rear drive shaft. There appears to be little damage but it looks like the brackets that hold the U joints to the rear differerential just lost a bolt and then bent. Is the replacement as simple as replacing the u brackets and bolts? I'm a total novice mechanic!!!

Thanks for the help

Did the front of the driveshaft fall out of the transfer case, thus spilling fluid all over? If not, hit the dealer and get new brackets and those little bolts- they should have a set of these or any parts store should- they are common. Reset the driveshaft in place and bolt up--- could be super cheap and easy. But you may now have an out-of-balance shaft- if major new vibrations are there, then take it in for a drive-shaft balancing-- -unless you're planning to lift the jeep - then live with it until you make many other changes....

If the dealer you bought it from just did the U-joints, then he should replace the straps & bolts free of charge. They don't just fall out like that, if the install was done correctly. they probably never tightened them.

I don't think they need to go that far, maybe just park it in the lot with one tire on the mechanic's right hand.
