no fuel

this is driving me fits, i'm not getting any fuel in the fuel rails and i cant hear the fuel pump running ( i'm going to get into this tomorrow with a voltmeter) but for now just trying to troubleshoot.... what will cause the auto shut down relay to engage, and how do you disengage this condition?

also, are there any connections under the dash that will keep the fuel pump from coming on?

lastly, i un-installed a viper 550 esp alarm system on this jeep... is there anything that i need to maybe hook back up that was disconnected for the alarm to be installed?

alarms have a starter kill...normaly the starter wire is cut and a relay is installed (sometimes internal on alarm)... hopefully you re-connected the starter wire.

so was everything working fine before alarm was taken off? and from point jeep was running till now what all have you done?

just like everyone else i hate trouble shooting my jeep esp when you get upset, thats when you miss something stupid & simple.. like a fuse, wire unpluged etc.. just trying to re-trace your steps..hehe

i've checked everything under the dash i can think of, and other than pulling out the alarm, i have done nothing electrical to the jeep. i got out the voltmeter today and checked for voltage at the pump.... anywhere from 6 to 9 volts. so i swapped to a new relay, same thing, pulled the relay and just jumpered the connection got over 13v at the pump. the fuel pump clearly says 12v, so i'm kinda confused by these readings.... but either way i pulled the pump and NO WHERE in town can i find the right replacement pump. i had to order one thats as close to it as possible and going to have to change my connections to make it hook up then hopefully the new pump will work which means the old one was just junk.

i'm pretty sure theres not another relay. the problem i'm having now is finding the right pump, the one i ordered was still not right, doing some online research and i'm finding that other people have had the same issue to no avail. looks like i might be going to the stealership tomorrow if no one else has any ideas where to buy the pump.

I just recently had similar fuel pump issues. If you are getting voltage to the pump and it does not turn on then it has to be the pump. What year is your Jeep? Can you post a picture of the old pump and maybe I can guide you in the right direction.

it's a 91 base model 4.0L I6... unfortunately no pics..... it goes stright down into the pump from the top and the pump has two seperate spade connectors on top, not a single connector for both wires, and not screw on connectors. i can find pumps with single connections and screw on connections but the problem is they are made to go down and in at a 90dg angle where as mine needs to go straight down. the part number on my pump is bosch 9580810019

mine has spade connectors on it but they come straight out of the pump, not spade that are screwed in, what you show would definately work though. the wiring has not been my issue bc i can modify the connections to work ( like on yours) the bigger problem is finding one that is physically the right size and mainly it has to go straight down into the tank, all of them i have seen are made to to into the tank at a 90dg angle, like it mounts in either a really shallow gas tank or from the side, mine needs to go straight down. i'll try and get some pics of the old one later

what brand and model is the pump you show?

Here is what mine looks like at length. It is about 7" long before it is placed in the metal sending unit bracket. It drops straight down into gas tank and has a strainer that attaches to the bottom and goes out at 90 degrees. Mine is off a 91 2.5 and I found a new one at Autozone for $81.99 plus $12.99 for a new strainer. It is an Airtex model E7006. I tried to link to it but it didn't work. Just search Autozone.com and see what you come up with. I have also seen some on ebay for like $28, but can't testify to those.

It came with the adaptors and some new washers and hose. I searched Autozone for a 91 4.0 and it gave me the same pump as the 2.5. Good luck...and check your ground wire on the sending unit once you get it out. That was my problem, so when I put the new pump in it only worked for a couple of days and I had to start all over again. Turns out my old pump wasn't bad only the ground wire and it kept kicking fuses and relays.

I cut the angled hose in half and used it. My old one was cracked. When I pulled the pump out the 2nd time the washers they gave me were swollen the size of baseballs so to keep it tighter in the sending unit I put the old ones back on.
