No power for aftermarket radio 93 Wrangler

I have been having a nightmare trying to fix my radio in my Jeep. Someone had cut the harness out of the jeep and I had to match up all of the color codes but I'm having a power issue. I have power off the main line Red but the yellow is doing nothing. I checked the fuse box and the slot that says Radio is empty but looks like a SINGLE SLOT fuse? I put a 10 fuse into the ACC slot next to the radio fuse as suggested but still getting no power to radio. The only thing I have gotten is about a 5 second light up and then it shuts dwn.

Two questions what is the deal with the fuse box and does anybody know what size fuses should be in the radio or ACC slots?

The radio is usually a 10 amp fuse. I would just run a constand "hot" to the yellow from the fuse panel. The yellow wire is your memory wire, and will not take any real power to remember what station it was on and what time it is.

1993-94 Jeep Wrangler Stereo Wiring Information

Constant 12v (yellow wire) should be hooked up to a red/white wire from the harness
Switched 12v (red wire) should be hooked up to a purple/white wire from the harness

The radio should have a 10 amp fuse in the fuse box.

im pretty sure you need a 20amp fuse in the acc slot check to see if you are popping that 10 amp fuse. if so thats going to be your problem. if not grab a test light find a constant power wire, that goes to the yellow wire on your radio. then find a switched power wire and that goes to the red wire. good luck. let us know if this doesnt fix your problems

I have no idea what is going on here I was able to get that yellow line powered up with a direct line from the battery and protected by a fuse. Radio powered up and then I had no sound coming out of the speakers. I disconnected the speakers and ran a speaker directly off the radio and still no sound? I don't know If there is a disconnect or another issue w my wiring in general but I'm at a loss for ideas. Thanks for the other tips and yes I checked the unit itself the radio works in another car

Did you check to see if the radio plays music in the other car? or just to see if it powers up? I would have to say it seems like a wiring issue, disconnect all the speakers and only run the power wires (red switched, yellow constant, black ground) then check the output with a speaker, maybe multiple speakers since you said you tried this already. That speaker you used could have an issue where the speaker wire is touching something metal and causing the internal amp to go into protect mode.

I disagree. If a 10 amp fuse is blown, there is a short. DO NOT go to a bigger fuse you will fry the wiring.

Lawdog, from the info on your last post, I would have to say that
1)the settings on the radio have been changed (fade or balance)
2)you have the wrong wires from the speaker
3)a bad speaker you are using to test
4)or you fried the output to which if so you may still be able to use the RCA output(s)

Google your brand and model radio, and look for a wiring diagram. If you can't find it, post the info here, and me or someone else will help you find the diagram. (assuming you don't have one)

Yeah the radio definitely works in the other car. I agree there is something missing in the loop either a disconnection or touching something etc. I did the test u suggested just power and ground to the one speaker I used speaker wire directly to a brand new speaker and got nothing. I used just standard speaker wire not car stereo speaker wire. Only because I wanted to see if I got anything at all. There is evidence of water damage to the front 2 speakers and old stereo so I was thinking maybe there is a short somewhere else I can't see hence why I disconnected. Now there is one thing I didn't mention I have all the speaker wires connected to the harness but I had to do a few things that maybe are wrong. Here's the list one is there was an extra wire listed as illumination that I had no place to plug in so it's just extra. I couldn't find anything online saying where I could piggyback it. Two I had to run constant power off the battery because I was getting nothing off the fuse box. Three there was a wire labeled antenna and it said if you didn't have a wire on the harness you should connect it to the Remote wire which I did. I also connected the dimmer wire off the fuse box as well. I'm looking for a wiring diagram for the radio now and I will post it later. Just throwing out what I have done.

dont connect antenna, dimmer, remote, or illumination.

Antenna is for a power antenna (which you dont have)
Dimmer is to dim the lights on the radio when your headlights are on (dont need imo)
Remote is to turn on a separate amplifier (which you dont have)
Illumination is similar to dimmer just dont hook it up

Could cause issues with the internals on the radio. Sending power up a wire thats sending power out to something, yes definately.

hmm I would suggest going to www.the12volt.com and checking the forums there, Im sure you cant be the first person to have this issue. And if you are, then they should be able to help you better than I can at the moment.
