Not Death Wobble But Kinda

Heres the Verdict. I have a 1993 Wrangler Sahara. 4.0 5spd. Equiped with a 4" SuperLift, Rancho shocks rancho stabalizer, heavy duty shackles, Your basic Lift. This is my Problem. Driving at any speed my driver front tire will bounce back and forth like i m turning the wheel left and right, My allignment is fine. Im unsure of the passenger tire cause i cant see it. I drive 22 mile each way on interstate at 70 to 80 MPH and have no problems. and I have only had death wobble one time and that was at about 20 MPH when i hit a real hard bump. I have noticed that my steering wheel turns about 3 inches in both directions without the tires moving. The play i am getting there is coming from my Tie rods. They kinda Roll Back an forth in a twisting like motion. also in 4WD the tires will jump back in fourth when in a hard pull (Hill Climbing, EXT) All Help would be would be greatly respected.

Also anyone familiar with identifying jeep Axles. As far as I know of my drivtrain is all stock, I did notice my tag on the front axle said 3.07 as far as gear ratio. I wanna upgrade to lower gears but not quite sure what axles I have. I am originaly a Toyota man and just recently got converted to jeeps. So my jeep skills arnt that good

It Dont do it on the interstate or anything. It just does it when im on a rough road. (Gravel, Dirt, and So On) It dont matter the speed ither 5MPh or 20MPH.

with your engine/transmission/tire combo 4.56 gears are what is normally recomended, and with those gears and 33 inch tires, it is also recomended that you ditch the rear D35 in favor of something stronger or go with a Super 35 kit from Supior axle

Well See I just replaced everything under there prior to have my allignment. Balljoints and all. I dont know what you guys recommend but I used the best i could get from my local NAPA store. If I can I will record what its doing and upload to Youtube an post a link here. Maybe if you guys see it you may have a better understanding of whats going on. I am really leaning tward my wheels. My tires are extreamly wide ( Pics posted under my Jeep Pofile ) I had a 84 Toyota that I could not keep on the road until I changed to a 8" wheel. Maybe this jeep is the same way IDK. But I will see what I can do about a Upload and try to show you guys. Thanks for the info on the axles an ratio guys.

either way, having 3 inches of play in your steering wheel is not right. have you had some one turn the steering wheel while you look under the front to watch what every thing is doing?

Yeah... Okay it's kinda hard to explain. Both Tires rods twist depending on what way you turn the wheel. For Example turn the wheel left and the tierods twist tward the rear end or Vise versa. The Drag Link and All is twisting. Not just the tie rods.If some one here can receive videos through text message i will send it to them through Text to kinda show whats going on.

there is your problem, you have EXCESSIVE play somewhere in your steering. This is why you dont feel in in your steering wheel....

your tie rod ends should not be moving around like that.
they also appear to not have been touched in a very long time, so i take it they are not on the list of things you replaced? if so, i would suggest doing that.

I concur sir! Plus they are relatively inexpensive so a good place to start...yes youll need alignment again...I know..that sux,...but you cant move forward with diagnosis unless you resolve the obvious issue first.

I changed the driver side tie rod again last night with a new one. While I had it jacked up I noticed that the rod on my Pitman arm has a little play there as well. Im going to replace that one this evening after work and then try to schedule a appoint for a new allignment. Hopefully that resolves the problem.

Sounds Good But I'm on a tight budget right now. Between Bills and my family there aint much spare money these days.

As for the front end problem, Most of the play I was having dissapeared after replacing that one tierod. Hopefully after the other one is fixed and Im alligned then I wont have any more problems. But Guys thinks for all your help and info. I will also keep you guys posted on my progress rather the problems continues or is resolved.

The Movement I was getting out of my drag link was caused by the play that i had in my upper tie rod. But anyways I replaced all my tierods again and just had it re-alligned. Things seem to be fine now. Thank you all for all suggestions
