Not Running Right

ok i've got a 4 banger and it's got 116k miles. I dont think it was treated very well over its lifetime. i just replaced the vavle cover gasket and when i pulled the cover, there was SLUDGE everywhere like as in i could scrape off plenty with my fingernail.

it has an aftermarket filter on it and when i pulled that off and looked in it, there was OIL everywhere in the tube, damn near dripping out.

i didnt notice a MAF, i assume it's that little slit right before the butterfly in the TB. i took MAF cleaner and carb cleaner to that area. the tube that goes from the top of the valve cover to the intake tube was blowing out smoke (blue, obviously oil), so that's where its coming from.....but why? is that the pcv valve or something? i thought it was supposed to be a vaccum line.

took it to the mud yesterday and got the filter a little wet and have a CEL now, cant get it to go off.

i just got new oil, plugs, plug wires, valve cover gasket, Slick 50, upper cyl lube, carb cleaner, MAF cleaner, and some other stuff. trying to revive it, but ima need some help from you guys. i aslo got the Haynes manual....

had a little problem w/ a guy at autozone; first he tried to give me 6 spark plugs and when i get home i see that he gave me 8 plug wires.....so i call the store (pissed) and the kid tells me to come back up there and fight him. WTF?
its ok tho, i got ahold of his disctrict manager....he wont be around long had half a heart to roll up w/ the AR-15.....nah i'll let him suffer on wellfare....

thx for all the help!

there's no mass air flow sensor on these, let us know what happens when its tuned up right, make sure there's no vacuum leaks. cleaning out the pcv ports in the valve cover helped also.

I hope it all works out for ya. If there is 1 thing I have learned about vatozone it's this. Take the parts you are replacing with you for immediate comparison. I always roll up with a dirty part and slam it on the counter being sure to make a mess. I've been screwed by those douchebags 1 time to many.

oh that kid is long gone. talked to his regional manager and it wasnt even a question as to if he would stay with autozone or not. shows him to be a douche.

anyway, i pulled one of the codes which was something like weak o2 sensor signal. also when i was changing the valve cover, two small hoses came off and i have NO idea where they came from. i found one opening but the hose wont fit on it but even if it did, i cant find another place for it to go......wtf? i am positive those two hoses are causing problems. and i think i may have F'ed up my o2 sensor or the connections somehow when i was tearing the mud up.

anybody know what those hoses are? and is the o2 a common problem?

thx again,
beef

ok i got a new o2 sensor and those codes went off.

so i still have one code: 13--MAP sensor vacuum. i am assuming that is one of the disconnected hoses....any clues as to where it/they go?

yup i figured them both out. had to go to autozone and get an elbow for one of them.

well, all CEL's are off, the truck aint runnin rich anymore, and i've got a smooth, clean idle.

i degreased the motor and i concluded that the oil leak was, in fact, the valve cover and is now fixed

yezzir. next on the list is SNORKEL!!!!!

somebody plz help!!!! im sure as hell not buying one online for $300+

my idea is to fab one up from home depot. also, im not sure i understand how it works exactly. i need to create a box to house my filter, and then run it up to the side/top of the truck with the pipe facing forward.....but what if it's raining??? wouldnt tons of water be directly routed to my filter..........which is exactly the opposite of what i want....??

the arb snorkel like on mine has a built in weep system or something they called it, water can drain where it collects, but outside water cannot enter there.
