Nuttered to Hell?

Hey guys. New to the forum. Bought an 90 from a guy in a different county that didn't require smog check. It has a motorcraft 2150 on the 4.2 engine. Mr Inspection Dude tells me I need a pulse air system. Is this even possible to put back in without the original carb? Or perhaps a better question, how can I get this thing back in there for visual inspection?

Not to encourage you to do something underhanded, but you could either:

Find a new guy, our emissions here are ultra strict, but most people have no idea what they are looking for on the visual inspection, so as long as it passes the sniffer test they really don't care. You just have to find someone who does not know, or care what it is "supposed" to look like. The big one you might be giving it away on, and you will have to check your rules there, but we can't have an open air cleaner, it has to be in the stock enclosure. It is a dead giveaway that the Pulse Air is removed.

The next thing would be to go to a Junk Yard and get a Pulse air off an older Cherokee and just put it in, without it actually doing anything, just so they can see it.

One other thing you could try is that Carter the company that made your stock carb is out of business, so if they fail it is not like you can "order a new one". Sometimes there are rules that will let you declare your car a legacy and they will let you change stuff, though you will need to look into your local laws.

All that said did he even put the sniffer on it, if so did it pass? Or did he fail you before he even got to that part?

It passed the sniffer test. I'll be happy taking it to another guy, but I think the last one put it in the system -- the reason it failed, I mean. But i'm not sure. Thanks for your help. I'll hit up a junk yard and throw some bullshit in where it's supposed to be. Just would be nice to know if the next guy has info on me in the system. Damn Clark County NV

Emmissions are crap. I am glad I live in NC. If a vehicle is more than 20 years old(or something like that) inspection
wherever you go there you are..........
