Nutter Bypass does it again

Man ive been on this forum for a day and it already helped me out of a bind.

The '90 YJ Jeep I bought has a 4.2L carbed engine, and the last person to work on it was less than ASE certified...a real winner.

Well long story short the carb isnt all there, and half the wires are cut and mismatched and OMG there is a coating of oil all over EVERYTHING...

Heres the thing, I had no power and predetonation.

My first thought was the timing was off or the advance wasnt working...so I hit the threads to find the ignition advance settings and stumbled upon the Nutter Bypass, which bypasses the ECM so that the Ignition module isnt trying to work with sensors and parts that arent there or are broken (electronic carbs... )

Anyway, I did the Nutter Bypass and set the timing for 8' before TDC...

hooked it all back up and BAM. the thing runs like new!

a huge thanks to those that wrote up the stickys - *eh-HEM* - "Tech articles" on this!

BBD stepper motor

I too did the nutter bypass on my 88 yj. What a huge difference it made. I am quite sure all the emissions stuff was not working and the carb is prob shot but thats another story. I could not get the stepper motor needle to move. I tried removing the motor and screwing in the idle screws while the engine was running and no luck on either. Has anyone else had this issue? It seems to run fine where they are but is it possible that the stepper motor is stuck? Any help would be appreciated.
