Oil Dipstick Tube...

Hey Gang,

A week or two ago I posted that my Wrangler only took 3.7qt of oil to the full mark.....I looked at the dipstick, and it was the same length as another Wrangler dipstick, what I didn't check at the time, is the length of the dipstick tube....

If you can, go out to your 4.2L and measure from the block to the top of the tube, when the dipstick is removed...I think mine has been shortened for some reason.....

THX

Interesting. Thanks for getting back to us on that. I bet that will be useful to someone down the road.

Yeah, I noticed it looks a bit rough, like it may have bent in the past, and the previous owner sometime in the past just cut/snaped it off.....

If anyone knows the OEM length, or can measure thiers, I will know for sure....

THX!!

The final verdict:

I went to the Jeep graveyard (yes we have a Jeep-Only salvage here), and found a 4.2L and pulled the dipstick tube and dipstick...it was markedly different than the one in my engine...

I guess the previous owner(s), decided to completely replace the real one with an imposter that is different length dipstick, different length tube, no bracing to the block and short...(there was string wrapped around the short tube to make it thicker and wedge into the block..it took NO effort to remove it from the block, actually was wobbly in the hole)...

I now have the correct dipstick/tube and the mystery is solved....

Now I wonder if the previous owner was running it low on oil un-knowingly.....

Anyway....correct on the left, imposter on the right...
