Oil leak help

So, i need some help. I had an oil leak that was dripping at the bell housing. Thinking it was the rear main seal, I replaced it. Now oil is pouring out of it much faster than it was before. I am pretty sure that I followed the instructions in the manual perfectly. Now, I am confused. Is there any where else this leak could be coming from or did I do the rear main wrong??

Autozone has dye kits for engine, trans, A/C, power steering that when this dye is put in the system and ran for ten-fifteen minutes you can see with a special light. I hunk the whole kit is about $25-$30 and is well worth it. I suggest stop and get some put it in and drive home. When you get home turn on the light and look for the highest sign of the dye this is most likely your problem. Then go ahead and address the leaking component. Just remember that you will need to clean off the component that is leaking really good before you do it again so as not to confuse yourself with a false leak so to say.

Does the special light come with the kit itself?

you might want to check out the rear of you valve cover.I dropped a new 2.5 in mine and noticed a leak at the gas station.when I got it home I put my hand in the back of the valve cover and sure enough it was the source of the leak....russ

If the leak increased after your work I would speculate it has to do with what you did. First check the pan seal, did you use a little sealant at the front and back of the pan? spray it off and check around the oil pan. Did you have any problem with the top seal? did you use the shoe horn or straw to guide it in? any shaving on the back of the seal while installing?

I recently replaced the oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket as both were defective. The valve cover was leaking from the rear, as others have stated with theirs and the oil pan was leaking from the rear as well. I first thought it was the main seal, but with the 2.5l, that's a big job, so after removing the oil pan I checked the gasket and was able to see exactly where the leak was coming from. I replaced oil pan gasket with a felpro 1 piece, but I made sure that the pan was very, very clean were the new gasket sits. I scrapped and then sanded it down nice and smooth. No more oil leaks.
