Oil pan leak :/

I'm losing quite a bit of oil from my gasket, even though I just replaced it?

Possibly. I guess I'm just going to have to drop it again, POOP! Can I reuse my new gasket? I only put it in yesterday, or does it have the metal crush inserts?

You would have seen the metal crush washers, but no I wouldnt reuse it. If it got pinched it'll just leak there again

Be sure you are torqueing them correctly. I went through three before I got it right, although I had worse problems, I crushed them by over-tightning them. For some reason my pan only likes the cork seal, rubber wouldn't fit. Good luck

Where's it leaking? Its hard to install one by yourself and get the rear part in correctly. did you use RTV in spots where recommended?

The leak is coming from the bends, the area around the starter. I'm not sure how tight they should be, I went a little past hand-tight the first time. The leak continued, so I tightened them quite "snug" and the leak has persisted. My dip stick reads right around "ADD" and I just added the five quarts three days ago :/

As far as RTV, I only added it to the little nubby corners by the rear seal. Where else is suggested??

THANKS!

use the rtv sealer very thin all the way around both sides of the gasket, top and bottom. And, be 100% sure both surfaces are clean. Most of the time if it still leaks there is a chunk of crap or piece of old gasket on the surface somewhere. I also suggest going all the way around with the sealer because it will slightly lift the gasket off the metal. If you only do a little part or parts, it will leak at either the end of the sealent where you stopped.

I could not get the rubber one piece to seal. I ended up just taking and having a mech do it. I know its a simple job and should be something I can do, however after 3 attempts I was furious with it and wanted nothing with it. 2 people is almost a must too.
