parking brake!?

I disconnected my parking brake switch because it stays on. Actually the po had it unplugged for this reason. Since then I barely use it and when I do I have driven with it on because it is either poorly adjusted or the cables are in bad repair. It seems like I have too much slack in the pedal. I think the reason why the switch stays on. The adjustment is at the equalizer but it is pretty rusted. I have a few questions. Is the equalizer available at the dealer? I can get all the other cables from a local parts store I know that. Is there a clip that holds the cable into the pedal assembly? because sometimes when I release the pedal the cable pops out. Is there an adjustment for the switch itself?

Check with the local Jeep dealer. I got a recall notice 6 months ago on my 90 YJ for a parking brake recall. It had something to do with the pedal disengaging suddenly when set. You could possibly get a new foot pedal & get your brake adjusted for free.

Try disconnecting the battery for about an hour. This resets the computer. After you reconnect the battery, plug the switch back in.

I had to do the same several months ago. My light would stay on so I just unplugged it, no real issue with the brakes. Put a new EGR valve on and the computer "thought" it was still the old one and it was still bad. Hooked the negative cable back up after a while and all was fine. About a month later plugged the brake light plug back in and badabing.....works like it's supposed to.
