Plastic in oil

I found plastic chuncks in the bottom of my oil pan. I thought that I might have spun a baring because the lower end is now knocking. I was told that if my motor is out of time it could cause it to knock. The thing is now I still do not have any oil pressure and I just put a new oil pump in over the weekend and it is still knocking any ideas?

Does anyone know how to pull the timing cover on this thing?

Most engines are made out of metal. I don't know where the plastic would be coming from. If you had a bearing failure you would find some metal shavings in your pan.

The plastic that I found in my oil pan was definitly my timing gear. They said it was the cam shaft gear. For some odd reason Chrysler put nylon timing gears in the 258 they said it was to reduce noise put I think they just went the cheap route.

i bought an aftermarket set in the late 80's for the wagoneer and it was some nylon web plastic.... and yes it went south.... when i did some other fix a few years later... i saw that the gear shoulder was missing a few chunks

They did the same thing in the kaiser era 225 buick V6, and it was known to have timing gear problems, but that was about the only bad thing with those motors. Anyway, good luck getting it sorted out.
