Please Help ID Type / Year of Engine (:-)

Recently purchased a 1993 YJ, but found the engine has been swapped. ( Vin shows it as a 2.5L 4cyl ) I believe it may be a 4.2, but not 100% sure, and unsure of year? Intake manifold stamped ef 3237858, Drivers side stamped 145 83 and 930602373(on tag, on block), passenger side block stamped 306C01.Only other numbers I see are 86 R ( on top of head, front )

Any help would be appreciated! Once I know what I have, I can figured out what Carb - plugs/Distributor/Wires to purchase. Thanks in advance!

Not to sound silly, but are there 4 or 6 plugs in it. A 4.2 is a 6 cyl. engine. You already know the 2.5. Once you can eliminate one of them, it makes it easier. All of the 4 cyl. were 2.5. The 6 cyl. could be 4.2 or the later 4.0.

From those pics, its a 4.2..not sure of the year, but i would guess mid 80's. I have an 87 YJ and although its close to looking like mine, I believe its a bit older from looking at the carb and some other things on the motor.

It is a 4.2 with a carter BBD carb. They all had essentially the same set up from 87-90.

If you are looking at changing the Dist, check out doing a Nutter Bypass and a Team Rush Dist upgrade. Can do both for less than a hundred bucks.
