Pop's in 4wd

89 wrangler

I was climbing a sloppy hill today and stopped to engage the 4wd and when I started back up the hill I heard a loud bang and felt a jerking or skipping in the drivetrain. I slowly kept going through the sloppy part...the whole time banging and jerking. Once through it I put it back in 2wd and it was fine. I got it home and crawled under it to check for broken U-joints or any play and they all seemed to be fine to me all the way to the outer U-joints. Engaged and dis engaged and drove forward and reverse and still here the bang when in 4wd....also I forgot to mention that when I first heard it I though maybe it wasnt all the way into 4wd so I stopped and tried again and pulled the shifter right out of the boot so I had to crawl under it and put it back on. It feels like its under my feet where the t-case would be

would love some help....think it might be the t-case chain is too stretched and skipping?

Im having the same issue in my 99, found it the same way as well. Engaged 4wd to go up a hill, loud noise and jerking. Took it to a local shop that i trust and they got in the jeep tried to engage 4wd and same thing happened. They have a couple ideas of what it could be, as of now im going to take my jeep into them and their going to open up the T-case and check for worn out parts. Ill let you know what the shop finds...
