Exclamation Power issues (2.5l)

I bought my 95 yj towards the end of july 2009 and absolutely love it but it only has a 2.5l 3speed automatic and cant even do 55 up a hill on the road. It bogs down to 45 and doesnt downshift. I was thinking of a motor swap but don't know if a V8 or a jeep 4.0 would be the way to go. If im to do a V8 swap i was thinking of the ford 302. Any suggestions?

I'm running a chevy v8 myself and having a blast with all the "extra" power but if your really interested in doing a 302, i have an excellent engine in storage that you can have dirt cheap....just 50 miles from ya....

I would also recommend Novak for the conversion parts.... http://www.novak-adapt.com/

I mainly want the 302 because i heard they are bullitproof motors. I just dont know the amount of work and how long it would take to get it in and running right. By the way how much do you want for the engine

i did a 304 v8 swap this summer into my 87 yj and i love the extra power, great move to do a v8, i had the 4.2 in it before but the 3 speed tranny and everything hooked right up to the v8 so if the 2.5 has the same tranny as mine did then it shouldnt be too hard... i cant help you with the 302 i dont know anything about them but it seems like uplifted does so hopefully he can help you out
