Problem with brake light switch...

Ok, my brake lights stopped working on my '92 YJ a few days after I got it. I took the driver seat out and got up under the dash. Located the switch, pulled the plug off, and jumped plug coming from the dash harness.

The plug has 4 wires on it. White w/ tan stripe, red w/ black stripe, blue w/ yellow stripe, and black. I was able to get the left brake light to come on by jumping the red and white wires together. But I couldnt get a combination that would make the right come on.

Now another question. Ive been looking at switches online to order, and I seem to have the one from a pre '91. I dont have the long skinny one like this.

Original Replacement Parts 56006247 - Brake Light Switch for 91-95 Jeep® Wrangler YJ - Quadratec

Mine looks more like this.

1987-1990 Jeep Wrangler Brake Light Switch - Crown

So Im confused about that. Did they use leftover parts in the newer YJs or something? Which part should I get?

And does someone have a wiring diagram that can tell me which color wires go to what?

Thanks.

the blk is ground, the red/blk is power in,white/tan is power out to tail lights. hooking red and white together is all that is needed to power the tail lights. your switch is correct according to the wiring diagram.

Thanks

So both lights should have came on when I jumped the white to red?

Now about the switch itself. Do the links I posted have accurate pics? Because Im pretty sure mine is the pre-91 one but I have a '92.

yep. my diagram is 91-95. a 4 wire sw is shown. for now, i'd hook white/tan to red/blk and troubleshoot. look for power. seems you are losing it back aft. the left is first downstream from sw then power jumps to the right side. you may be losing it behind the left light assy. splice? i'm off for the night. see you in the am. GO SAINTS. URAH!
