Question - 97 4.0L wrangler motor into a YJ

I have a chance at getting a fairly fresh 97 4.0L to replace my ailing 4.0L . What would it take to get it mated to the YJ? I don't believe it's a plug and play but for those that know - please share your thoughts.

It's $500 plus shipping or I got to go get it. a V8 would probably require more serious work, no? I was sort of looking into something straight forward with least of pain.

OK. I will ask the stupid question...Why do you think it wont work? other than needing the pcm for the new motor, it should be a plug and play type of thing. Motor mounts are the same, bell housing is the same, heads are the same so therefore the manifolds will bolt on.

the newer motor is obd2, yours is obd1. simplest way to hook it up would be to use it as a long block with your fi, sensors, flywheel, etc.

I agree. Use ur ecm, sensors etc and use the 97' block. Obd1 is way easier to modify too
