It's easier to find a 700r4 with the 231c on it already. I'm sort of in the same boat trying to figure out my engine swap, but I'm going to buy the adapter for the jeep case. Reasons are as follows: the overall length of tranny and t-case is shorter because chevy uses a long adapter between tranny and t-case, you also get better clocking options with an adapter, and I'm debating on repairing my 241or rock trac case for the swap. If your not planning on exceeding 4" lift then you'll be fine on length with the 700r4/231c and an sye. Great way to save money in my opinion!
