2001 is a TJ, im sure if you post in the TJ section, you will receive more information.
There are enough differences between the YJ and TJ to warrant reposing in that section.
TJ's are OBD2, have coil springs and a newer 4 speed OD automatic transmissions.
YJs are all leaf sprung (from the factory), have 3 speed automatic transmissions, older I6 engines are carberated, and have weaker manual transmissions (90 and older I6).
Im sure there are more differences, im listing the main differences.
As far as your potential purchase, a 01 for $5K is a great deal, even if it does need some work. Part time 4x4 means the 4 wheel drive is selectable, and as far as I know all jeeps are EXCEPT the Quadra Track found in some Grand Cherokees.
has some great advise, if you get the "Death Wobble", it means there is something wrong with your front end, the repair could be as simple as a stabilizer assembly replacement, or ball joints/control arm bushings, and even loose steering components.
Any way you look at it, buying a Wrangler is like opening the door to a new attitude on the road, random Jeepers will wave for no reason, and Prius drivers will scowl (I tend to think of them as jealous, but those tree huggers can be difficult at times), but its the Jeep thing, so enjoy it!
