No you remove the both pins and take the metal section and store into your Jeep until you want to put it back in.
Yes PIA the Jeep must be very close to level to re-install. The trick is to install them from the bottom first and if you can't line the upper then you move the Jeep to a flat surface and try again.
I had that set up for awhile and then went to one that screws on.
