really violent popping noise

my '94 is making this really violent popping noise, i think it is coming from the rear end. it started while i was wheelin the rubicon last week. im thinking right now its a ring/pinion thing or maybe my driveshaft binding. my rig is lifted 4''(rubicon express) with 33x12.5 tires. stock 3.73 gears. i havent done the slip-yoke eliminator and no CV driveshaft.

the popping/lurch forward comes when i accelerate or make any kind of turn. once i hit 3rd-4th, its gone. when i drive it in 4hi, the problem is greatly reduced so thats good

could it be something loose? do i need new gears/cv driveshaft?

HELP!!!!!

I would drain the differential and look for metal. Mine was doing that when I first got it...found a nice big chunk of the limited slip floating around.

if you've got 4'' of lift and running stock drive shaft, your rear ds could be the cause being at such an angle. and in that case, the cv and slip yoke elim. should fix that right up. let us know if it doesn't and we'll try to help some more.

Time to get that SYE Driveshaft Zak, It's gonna keep happening. Your gonna blow alot of pinion seals, possibly worse.
