Has anyone tried wiring up their defrost to a YJ that wasn't configured for it? Are there any kits for this? Just wondering before I went at it myself to save some grief.
i'll look it up after dinner and get back to you. i sold my top and am wired for a heater. i think the switch is timed but not sure. i will get back to you. also, do you have a rear windshield wiper? mike
NAVY CHIEF;
I would be interested also. Mine was a soft top only and I bought a hard top with a wiper and rear defrost. Couldn't find any switch or wiring either. It must have been an option and not prewired in the dash. Thanks Chrysler for saving a dollar.
Doesn't appear that I have the hook up running to my rear end. All I have is a set up for some trailer lights. I guess I'll just have to rig something up, shouldn't be to hard.
I think the easiest thing to do is get a rear window defrost and heater switch off a late model salvage car, mount them in a metal panel on the dash. The heater switch should be able to operate the wiper speed and the rwd should be the timer for the heated glass.
Here is the picture of the only connection I have in the back of my jeep. Sorry if the quality is a little lower, I shoot in RAWs so I had to shrink the file down a lot.
yep, trailer. all of the jeeps i have owned have had wiring in the rear for hard top use. do you have carpeting in the tub? if so, pull it back and look behind it.
Yes there is a timer. It's a red relay by the drivers left foot just ahead of the door.
The correct harness can be bought from ebay. That's where I got mine when I bought a hardtop w/defrost and wipe.
It plugs into your factory harness.
Here is the rear window defogger wiring diagram for my 89YJ. Page 54 shows the factory plug is four connectors, all female. It should be under the carpeting near the driver side rear taillight.
If I can find the picture of mine I will upload as well.
I am trying to find the wiring diagram for the 10 pin connector for the 1990-ish hardtop I recently picked up that has the rwd and wiper. Since the fog light switch is in use, I'm also trying to figure out where/how to mount the switch for the rear wiper.
Sorry I haven't been on the forums the past few days, I had a very close friend of mine shipped off to Iraq. Anywho, I'll check again in the AM. Thanks for all the help guys.
Alright, so I have the two female connectors. The one is up by my parking break, and the other is on the top. The connector are both different sizes, don't know if they should match up or not. The top is from 1989, and the jeep is a 1995.
