I just bought an '87 YJ and the back seat that came with it was rusted to shambles. I bought a replacement (Smittybilt 41301) fold and tumble for it. Installation went smoothly until I went to install the striker plate that catches the hook to hold the seat down I the back. Using the existing bolt hole puts the striker plate about 4" (too far back, towards the tailgate) away from the hook no matter which hole in the striker plate (there are three) I use.
Has anyone else tried this? Is my Jeep just weird or has Smittybilt failed me? And does anyone know if the frame member I'm bolting into runs the length go the bed? Can I safely drill where the plate needs to go and just tap the hole? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
