relocating intake inside jeep?

When I bought my jeep it had a cone filter attached to the intake zip tied up out of the way... No airbox or anything. Problem is mud gets kicked up to it...and also water... can i relocate where my engines air intake is to the inside of the jeep somewhere? or should I just spring and buy a snorkel? Does a snorkel attach to the factory air box because i dont have that.

Man this must be your lucky day or something... If your willing to take the trip to pick up the leaf springs from me i also have a complete stock airbox from my 91 though it was for a 4.0..Not sure how similar they are but still it gives you something to work with..

It'll work dude. 2.5l and 4.0 are the same engine.
Except the 2.5 has two less pistons.
But it's always safe to test first
