Removing A/C blower fan question

I'd like to r&r the blower fan. Do I have to drop the whole underdash unit to remove the blower fan housing? I did all the yoga I know how, which is none, to get up under there and removed a bracket on the firewall and two screws around the cowling and it had no effect. Thanks for any advice.
