Removing steering column?

I'm planning on removing my column in order to paint it. Can anyone help me out and let me know what I need to look for to do this and if there's any special tools needed? Thanks.

Just did mine last night after I tore it all apart to find my column was cracked and the wobble wasn't from some loose bolts like usually is the case. It doesn't require anything more than some standard sockets and allens to disconnect the steering shaft in the engine compartment. It is a lot of work in my opinion just to paint it. I would mask things off and repaint it in place.

Thanks for the reply. Im actually replacing the signal switch and lever as well as putting on a Grant steering wheel. I'd like to have it out to work on it instead of fighting it in the cab of the Jeep. Ill go ahead and paint it while its out to clean it up and match the new wheel.
