Removing Vinyl Graphics

My YJ has some God-awful sun baked vinyl stripes on it. I went to remove them using a blow dryer and it just wasn't very efficient. Plus I don't have a heat gun.

Does anyone know of some easier ways to remove these?

Go to your local auto parts store and get a couple cans of decal remover, spray it on wait a bit peal the graphic off. Your paint will not be faded under the graphic.

3M Adhesive Remover works like a champ and doesn't mess up any paint. Be aware, the paint under the decals will be a different color since it hasn't been exposed to the sun for the last 20 years.

A hair dryer will not get hot enough to work, you need a heat gun. You can get a decent one @ Harbor Freight for about $10.00 on sale.Auto body supply stores sell plastic razor blades that will not gouge the paint. WD-40 will remove adhesive residue.

Starting fluid is also good to remove the glue residue from the graphic's.

If you remove the decals, plan on doing some serious buffing out..

Yup try heat gun and the plastic razor blades. Sign making suppliers also make chemicals to soften and remove vinyl which is sometimes easier if the surface of the vinyl is broken because it won't peel off without breaking into a million pieces.
