Replacing stock springs and shocks

Hello All

I am going to replace the stock springs and shocks on my 1991 Wrangler. I do beleive everything is original and has never been changed in its 161,000 mile history

I have been spraying everything down with PB blaster.

Are there any tricks to changing springs? are any of the springs under tension or load?
I don't want to pound out a bolt and have the spring unleash!!

any info would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Lift up one end and support the frame and the axle with jack stands. Once the weight of the Jeep is off the springs the load is gone.

Support the frame with jackstands. This will allow the springs to be at full droop. Put a bottle jack under either end of the axle. Raise the jacks just high enough to support the axle. After removing the U bolts you can then raise the bottle jacks up seperating the axle from the spring slightly. Then remove the spring eye bolts. You will probably have to cut a couple of the spring eye bolts. So be prepared with replacement bolts and sleeves. Good luck.
