Ring & Pinion Change

Planning a gear change in a YJ currently running 3.07 gear ratio.

Is it necessary to change the carrier in order to go with a larger gear ... say 3.73?

I read in Quadratec for one of the gear sets they offer that if you are changing gears from 3.31 or numerically lower to a gear set set numerically higher then the carrier needs to be replaced ... a carrier that will accept 3.55 and greater.

I don't remember ever running into anything like this. Help?

yes. each rear end is a little different. 30/35 3.73 need different carrier. the 44 you can go to 3.73. there is such a thing as thick cut gears so you can put large gears on a small carrier. dont know if they make that for a 30/35.
