Question Rough starting 87 wrangler

Guys and gals, I am knew to the jeep world, But LOVE it so far, I just got an 87 Wrangler 6cyl. When I start my jeep it sounds very rough. I was (TOLD) it has a new starter and it looks new, (by new i mean its not as dirty as the rest of the jeep) I damn near hurts to hear it start up. I have been told that it needs shims, but when i went to auto parts store they told me it has a ford starter and does not use shims. I was also told to check the flywheel, just how should i do this and what am i looking for. Told ya I was new to this. so over look my stupid questions. Greatly thankful for any info.

My 87 will make a whole parking lot turn to see wtf the load noise is when i first got it.
i tried every starter from every parts store and none would sound any better.
you can use two washers to space the starter ( see the post about the loud starter on here ) one of the members has a good pic of the spacer idea or you can do like i did and just break down and buy a gear reduction starter and be done with it.
it with cost more but works perfect .

here is the link if you want one
High Torque Mini Gear Reduction Starter for AMC & Jeep : eBay Motors (item 250416056488 end time Apr-24-10 16:43:37 PDT)

by the way welcome to the jeep thing.

call me if you need help with anything
