definately do fuel filter, probably as old as the other stuff you replaced. yj's do things like that with dirty throttle body, clean that sucker out. sounds like throttle position sensor maybe to.

alright I changed out the fuel filter and cleaned out the throttle body real good. I am still having the problem but because I am using the car for work I am driving it in the morning and then at night and have my headlights and heat on. I figured out that is where my problem is coming from. When they are on the engine is missing and backfiring with an erratic idle. If anyone has ever heard of this before and knows a remedy for the situation please let me know thanks

check charging system. if battery is weak, and/or alternator isn't charging enough, could make it run bad.

Is it doing this the whole time or only after it has been running a little?

It starts up fine and after a minute or two of warming up it starts acting up. I thought about it being the alternator so I took it to work and tested it but the charging system read out batt good and system good.

I know you may not want to hear this, but if all else fails, could be a carb issue. Having similar issues w/ mine, gonna rebuild as soon as weather gets nicer...

Its got throttle body 2.5 injected and I checked the cat but it is good and the problem gets worse when I have the heat and lights on. I think that there is a problem with my wiring somewhere. I just got a new engine swap for my Honda del sol so as soon as thats done I am going to get rid of the 2.5 and start working on putting the 5.7 from my old Camaro in. I really don't like messing with wiring and I think that this is my best alternative allot more power and no computer or wiring harness to mess with. If all goes well I should have the car done by summer and the jeep done for winter.

I have the same issue w/my 2.5 TBI. I have been told it may be a vacuum problem. Have you looked into egr, map, O2, and PCV? What about fuel rail pressure? I feel for you on this one!

does it buck and backfire and miss at part throttle only or does it do it everywhere.
